Todd's Reviews Covered This RDTA Twice in One Week - Meet the GDMODS Ignis

Every so often a rebuildable shows up that makes you stop scrolling. The GDMODS Ignis is one of them. It is a 22mm, single-coil RDTA that costs $81 - not an impulse buy, and not the kind of thing mass-market brands bother making anymore. But it keeps selling out in the circles where people actually care about flavour, and in August 2026 one of the most respected reviewers in the game, Todd's Reviews, put out two videos about it in the space of a week. So we spent a long time with the spec sheet, tore it apart piece by piece, and checked what the community is saying. Here is the honest breakdown.

GDMODS Ignis 22mm MTL DTL RDTA Standard Kit - Silver

Who makes it

GD Mods is a boutique precision maker that started in 2020 and built its name on one thing: machining quality. They are the people behind the Ignis - the name mixes Latin ignis (fire) with a Chinese character meaning ash or ember, which tells you a lot about the design philosophy. This is not a brand chasing trends. They also make a hand-finished Damascus steel collector edition of the Ignis, which gives you an idea of where their head is at.

What the Ignis actually is

An RDTA is a rebuildable that puts the coil up top like a dripper but feeds it from a juice reservoir below the deck - a dripper's flavour with a tank's autonomy. The Ignis is that idea taken to an extreme level of precision:

- A full 22-piece build in surgical-grade, mirror-polished SS316, with PEEK insulators and SS304 grub screws. Everything screws together tight, no rattles, no zinc alloy shortcuts.

- 22mm x 47.5mm, so it sits flush on most single-battery and tube mods.

- Five interchangeable bottom-airflow inserts: 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm single holes, a dual 1.5mm, and an elongated 4.5x1.5mm slot. That is a genuinely wide range - from a tight, cigarette-like MTL draw to a loose, saturated RDL/DTL pull.

- A tool-free, height-adjustable chamber: twist the SS316 510 drip tip to raise or lower the chamber by about 0-2mm. Screw it down for a denser, more restricted hit; loosen it for a bigger, airier one. You can even lift the compression piece out entirely for a low-profile build.

- The Juice Closed-loop System: a swappable SS316 wicking tube. The included single-hole tube feeds slowly for a drier MTL vape; an optional honeycomb tube feeds fast for wet MTL or full DTL. All PEEK-sealed, so no plastic taste.

- Straight-walled glass tank, with a warm amber PEI tank available separately if you want the gold-note look.

How the tuning actually changes the vape

This is where the Ignis earns its price. Most "MTL/DTL" atomizers have one airflow ring that tries to do everything. The Ignis splits the job into three controls:

1. Airflow insert - sets the base draw: 1.0-1.2mm for MTL, dual 1.5mm for RDL, the 4.5x1.5mm slot for loose DTL.

2. Chamber height - affects density and hit strength: tighter chamber, denser vapour and a more restricted feel.

3. Wicking tube - controls how wet the vape is: single-hole for a dry, crisp MTL; honeycomb for a wet, saturated hit.

Change the inserts and you can go from a 1.0 ohm round-wire MTL setup that sips juice and delivers clean tobacco notes, to a 0.5 ohm single-coil RDL build that chucks respectable clouds while staying warm and flavourful. Same atomizer, two completely different vapes.

What it is not good at (be honest)

- It is not a cloud-chasing machine. Single coil, 22mm, small chamber - if your thing is huge dual-coil clouds, this is not your atty.

- The standard 2ml capacity is small. You will almost certainly want the Extended Chamber Kit, which brings it to 4ml, adds a PEI chamber and taller glass, and is designed for longer wicking.

- RDTA wicking has a learning curve. Too much cotton and you get dry hits; too little and it floods. If you have never wicked a rebuildable before, budget some practice time.

- The honeycomb tube is not included - it is an optional extra.

- $81 is premium money. You can buy three decent mass-market RTAs for that.

The value math

At 2FDeal the Ignis Standard Kit is $81. European shops list the same atomizer at EUR 84.90-EUR 89.90 - that is roughly $94-$99 at current rates. So you are saving around $13-18 before shipping, and with our free-shipping thresholds (from $55 to the UK, $85 to Germany, $90 to France and Italy) the savings get real.

Want the full modular system? Standard Kit $81 + Extended Chamber Kit $32 + PEI Accessory Kit $26 = $139 for an atomizer that covers MTL, RDL and DTL with two tank styles. Spare glass tanks are $4 each. That is the whole ecosystem, no surprises later.

How to pay even less at 2FDeal

The kit price already puts you close to a free-shipping order, so here is the quick math for this specific buy:

- UK, South Korea, Japan: $81 clears the $55 free-shipping line on its own.

- US: add the Extended Chamber Kit and the order hits $113 - over the $100 threshold, so everything ships free.

- Germany: add a $4 spare glass tank and you are at exactly $85, the free-shipping line.

- EU orders: VAT and IOSS are handled on our side - no customs surprises at the door.

What the reviewers say

Todd's Reviews - the UK reviewer who has been at this since the early days and is known for running multiple builds through every atomizer rather than quick out-the-box takes - posted "Tinkering with the GD Mods IGNIS RDTA" on August 17, 2026 (6.3K views) and followed it with a full "IGNIS RDTA by GD Mods" review on August 23. Two videos in one week for a niche 22mm RDTA is not something that happens for products people do not care about. European stockists describe it the same way we would: "the precision of a dripper, the autonomy of an RTA."

Honest FAQ

MTL or DTL? Both. That is the whole point - 1.0-1.2mm inserts for MTL, dual 1.5mm or the 4.5x1.5mm slot for RDL/DTL, plus chamber and wicking-tube tuning on top.

Does it leak? RDTAs are generally more leak-prone than RTAs if wicked badly, but the closed-loop wicking tube and bottom airflow make the Ignis about as forgiving as this format gets. Wicking quality is still on you.

Can I run it on a mech? With a single coil, yes - just check your resistance like always (we recommend staying within your battery's safe range and building with wire you trust).

What coils should I use? For MTL, round or simple wire around 0.8-1.2 ohm. For RDL, a small fused clapton or alien around 0.4-0.7 ohm. Single coil means one coil to install, one coil to wick.

Is the honeycomb tube included? No - the standard kit ships with the single-hole tube; the honeycomb tube is sold separately.

Should I get the Extended Chamber Kit? If you want 4ml capacity and longer wicking, yes - it is available here. It turns the Ignis from a flavour-first MTL device into a genuinely versatile all-day tank.

Bottom line

The GDMODS Ignis is a precision instrument for people who care about build quality and flavour, not a gadget for everyone. It is expensive, it demands basic rebuildable skills, and its standard capacity is small. But if you want one beautifully machined atomizer that can genuinely do tight MTL, RDL and loose DTL - with tool-free tuning and a full modular upgrade path - there is not much else on the market that comes close. That is why reviewers keep coming back to it.
